The achievements of Arrowfield Stud and the stallions that stood at Arrowfield have been etched in Australian thoroughbred history for over 100 years.

The Bowman family established the original Arrowfield in 1842 at Jerry's Plains and it rose to prominence as a thoroughbred stud farm in the early 1900's under the Moses brothers. Standing at Arrowfield at that time was the leading sire St. Alwyne (GB), sire of Melbourne Cup winners Poitrel and Night Watch. The stud was also home to Alwina, dam of the great Peter Pan.

Arrowfield's success continued after the First World War with the importation of the subsequent Champion Sire Valais, who headed the Australian Sires list on no less than five occasions. Valais went on to sire the great Heroic, a Champion Australian Sire for seven successive years, as well as the top class racehorses Manfred and Valicare.

After a period where the name Arrowfield was associated more with wines than horses, Arrowfield and stallion success were reunited in the mid 1980s under John Messara when four stallions: Rancher, Prego, Bellotto and Kenmare, took up residence. The modern era of Arrowfield began with all four of these founding stallions proving successful Group 1 producing sires; Arrowfield had re-emerged as a stallion maker.

In 1989 Arrowfield selected and purchased a majority interest in Danehill, a stallion that proved to be a breed shaping influence in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Danehill stood at Arrowfield alongside other successful stallions including Last Tycoon, Fairy King and Geiger Counter.

More recently, after relocating to the Segenhoe Valley near Scone, Arrowfield enhanced the career of the outstanding colonial stallion Snippets and now stands the exciting stallions Danzero, Flying Spur, Hussonet, Snitzel, Not A Single Doubt, Charge Forward, Starcraft and Redoute's Choice.

Arrowfield has also bred and/or sold a number of colts who have gone on to make their mark as successful sires including it's own stallions Danzero and Flying Spur as well as Zabeel, Danewin, Commands, Lion Hunter, Nothin' Leica Dane, and Catbird.

Arrowfield's reputation as a stallion maker looks set to continue with a world-class stallion roster headed by sire sensation Redoute's Choice.
