Eight 2YO winners in 23 days wins title

A month ago Not A Single Doubt’s chances of once again topping the Australian 2YO Sires’ list by winners didn’t look great.

Sure, he had 15 juvenile winners on the board, but Snitzel (21 winners) and I Am Invincible (20) seemed to have the battle for that particular title all to themselves.

Not A Single Doubt and his small army of 63 2YO runners – almost half of his 2012 foal crop – had other ideas. He’s added eight new winners in 23 days to overhaul his two rivals and end the season on 23 winners.

It’s the second year running Not A Single Doubt has claimed the title of Australia’s Leading Sire of 2YO winners. He won the 2013/14 crown with a 15-year record tally of 25 individual winners.

Arrowfield graduate Snappy One began Not A Single Doubt’s final push for the title when he won at Cessnock on 7 July. He was quickly followed by Scales of Justice in Western Australia on 9 July, and the impressive Chris Waller-trained debutante Tremezzina at Warwick Farm on 15 July.

A pair of weekend doubles in New South Wales, firstly Not A Gypsy and Arrowfield’s filly Shacked Up on 18 & 19 July, then Let’s Make It Rain at Canterbury & Ice Cream Lady on 25 July put Not A Single Doubt’s nose in front with 22 winners.

The popular son of Redoute’s Choice drove home his advantage with his final winner for the season, Love Goes On who bolted in by two lengths on debut for Henry Dwyer at Wodonga on Wednesday 29 July.

Precocity is not the only weapon in Not A Single Doubt’s arsenal. He posted a total of 27 wins worldwide in July 2015, compiled by 24 runners from four crops, at distances from 1000 to 1600 metres.

It’s true that many of Not A Single Doubt’s progeny cope well with rain-affected ground, so the winter is often fruitful for him, but he’s a sire for every season and every month of the year.  He added 63 wins to his record through the summer months of December, January & February, 27 of them coming in February alone.

Not A Single Doubt’s first 2YOs bred on a fee above $20,000 have contributed almost a fifth of the $6.9 million prizemoney that has secured him his first appearance among the top 10 stallions on Australia’s General Premiership list.

However, his major earners have come from all three of his latest crops and have won major races from 1000 to 2000 metres: 4YO mare Miracles of Life (3 wins inc. SAJC Robert Sangster S. G1 and $620,700), 3YO gelding Sure and Fast  (2 wins, $358,710, ATC Provincial Championship Final), 2YO filly Single Gaze (city winner & stakes-placed, $341,750, 3rd, GCTC Magic Millions Classic (R) LR) and 4YO mare Gypsy Diamond ($148, 550, ATC Japan Racing Association Plate G3 & two Group placings).

Not A Single Doubt made a characteristically punchy start to the new season when his 4YO son Fell Swoop scored by 3 lengths on Saturday at Rosehill – his fifth win from 7 starts.
