History repeats for Not A Single Doubt

A flashy chestnut filly by Not A Single Doubt bolts in at long odds on debut at Rosehill and targets the Magic Millions Classic in January.

That sounds familiar – where have we heard that before?

Four years after Karuta Queen burst onto the Sydney racing scene with a 3.8 length debut win at Rosehill in October 2010, another daughter of Not A Single Doubt turns up at Rosehill to upset the expectations held for her more favoured rivals.

Her name is Single Gaze and her prospects didn’t look good until the dying stages of Saturday’s 1100-metre juvenile contest.

Her trainer Nick Olive, who watched the race from Derby Day in Melbourne, said, “At the 200 metres I thought we were going to run a nice third or fourth – at the 100 metres though, I was pretty confident we were going to win the race.

“We’ve just got to sit down and see how she pulls up, she’s a very tough filly, very professional, but she’s paid up for the Magic Millions, so that’s where we want to head with her in January.”

The placegetters Zulu Royal (Charge Forward-Anakalinka by Anabaa) and Red Tracer’s half-brother Counterattack (Redoute’s Choice-Kisma by Snippets) completed a trifecta result for Arrowfield sires.

Olive bought Single Gaze for $70,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale from the Redbank North draft of her co-breeder Jamie Middleton. The filly is the third foal of city winner Redaluca’s Gaze (by Intergaze), already the dam of 2YO stakeswinner Le Val (by Snitzel) and his sister Amoret, a 3-length maiden winner at Hawkesbury on 23 October.

Not A Single Doubt’s three winners, Fremond in Perth, Atalanta Miss in Adelaide & Single Gaze in Sydney, have given him an early-season lead on a list where he is now well-established as a major player, the 2YO Sires’ table.
