Tulloch Lodge & Arrowfield = 2YO winners

Champion trainer Gai Waterhouse declared herself “tickled pink” when 2YO Snitzel colt Orleans defied all challengers and a protest to score on debut at Newcastle last Saturday for Kate Waterhouse and long-time stable owners Frank and Barbara Kennedy.

Watch Orleans win at Newcastle.

Waterhouse is already looking ahead to Spring’s major racing with the muscular son of city winner Take Charge (by Dehere), who is also nominated for the J.J. Atkins G1 at Eagle Farm on 11 June.

She writes, “It is a long way from Beaumont to Flemington, but this colt has gears. He has plenty of scope for improvement and the sky really is the limit. He is flying!”

Orleans was a $260,000 Inglis Easter buy for Waterhouse & Julian Blaxland from Newhaven Park. He is the latest of 15 juvenile winners sent out from Tulloch Lodge this season – and the eighth by an Arrowfield stallion.

The list is headed by Group winners Scarlet Rain (by Manhattan Rain), Thyme For Roses (by Redoute’s Choice) & El Divino (by Snitzel) and completed by Hussterical & Prompt Response (both by Beneteau) and Wilcannia & Vienna Waltz (both by Snitzel). Scarlet Rain & Hussterical are Arrowfield graduates, purchased by Darby Racing at Magic Millions sales.

Collectively, these eight Arrowfield-sired, Waterhouse-trained 2YOs have won 12 of their 23 starts this season for prizemoney of $764,435.

Past & present Arrowfield stallions dominate the 2015/16 Australian 2YO Sires’ list with five entries inside the top dozen: Not A Single Doubt (2nd), Snitzel (3rd), All American (4th), Redoute’s Choice (9th) & Beneteau (11th).

Add Manhattan Rain & Charge Forward and they have notched up 45 Australian 2YO winners, including 12 stakeswinners, of more than $7.5 million this term.

Snitzel holds a comfortable lead on the table by individual winners with a total of 18, giving him a shot at matching Not A Single Doubt’s record of 25 winners, the best tally of the past 15 years, set in 2013/14.
