Overview
AUSTRALIA'S LEADING ACTIVE SIRE OF G1 WINNERS
FOAL SHARES ONLY.
3YO filly Slow the Flow (ex Waterwise by Zabeel) was a most impressive first winner of Season 2010/11 for HUSSONET (USA) when she produced a powerful, swooping finish over 1200 metres at Randwick on 7 August that took her more than two lengths clear of her rivals. The win was her second from three starts.
7 AUSTRALIAN SW in 2009/10
Hussonet continued his exceptionally valuable contribution to Australian racing in 2009/10, cementing his place among the country's leading sires with:
• 102 winners - 9th by winners. Hussonet was one of only 10 sires to break the 100-winner mark last season.
• 7 stakeswinners & seven 2YO winners
• $4.4 million prizemoney - 15th overall; and 12th among active Australian-based sires.
• Top prices for his 2010 yearlings of A$550,000 at Inglis Easter, A$330,000 at Magic Millions and NZ$220,000 in New Zealand.
The champion sire son of Mr. Prospector exited the 2009 spring as sire of two highly promising sprinters in GOLD TRAIL, winner of the AJC The Shorts G2, and EAGLE FALLS, winner of the VRC Salinger Stakes G2. Both horses wasted little time fulfilling the promise of their spring form.
Gold Trail opened 2010 with victory in the ARC Railway Stakes G1 - becoming Hussonet's 27th G1 winner - while Eagle Falls finished 2nd in the VRC Newmarket H. G1, and split Wanted and Starspangledbanner in the G1 VRC Newmarket S. in March. In February HUXSSEN won the Mornington RC Hareeba S. LR.
The momentum continued in the final months of 2009/10, with new Listed Race winners LATIN NEWS (also G1-placed), GIRL HUSSLER, RUN FOR LEVI and EGO'S DARE; adding a South African two-year-old stakeswinner, SKY LINK for good measure. It was Girl Hussler who became Hussonet's 75th stakeswinner when she won the BRC Daybreak Lover Plate LR at Eagle Farm in June.
Meanwhile, Eagle Falls joined Gold Trail on the international circuit, posting fifth placings in Group One company in Dubai and Singapore. After making all the pace, Gold Trail held on gamely for fourth in the Singapore TC Krisflyer International Sprint G1.
CHAMPION SIRE OF WEEKEND HUSSLER
One of the best-bred stallions in the world and free of Northern Dancer blood, HUSSONET (USA) is the most dominant sire-son of Mr Prospector at stud.
His tally of 27 Group 1 winners makes him the world's second leading active sire of Group 1 winners - behind only New Zealand's legendary Zabeel.
HUSSONET was Champion Sire in Chile 2000-2005; Champion 2YO Sire of Chile 5 times, 1998, 2002-2005; Champion First Season Sire 1998; and has sired 75 stakeswinners, including 27 at Group 1 level.
HUSSONET made an immediate impact with his first Australian-bred progeny as the sire of 7-time Group 1 winner WEEKEND HUSSLER (2008 Australian Racehorse of the Year, 2007/08 Champion 3YO Colt/Gelding and the world's highest rated 3YO sprinter of 2008 on any surface), as well as MRC Arrowfield Blue Diamond Stakes G1 winner REAAN.
HUSSONET was Champion Australian Sire (AEI) in 2007/08, and Champion Second Season Sire 2007/08 by more than $2.2 million (ahead of Rock Of Gibraltar and the only Second Crop Sire that season to leave two individual G1 winners).
Hussonet's Australasian progeny also include G2 winner and G1 placegetter RIOS, Group 1 placegetters FIST OF FURY and FITOUSSI, Group 3 winner HUSSON LIGHTNING, G3 winner and G1 placegetter MISS DARCEY, stakeswinners DIRTY and HUISKES, plus stakes placegetters Hus Der Lieften, Husskila, Bubble Below, Honest Truth, Boys Will Be Boys, Moonlight Hussey, Husonic, Brazen Hussey, Atomic Huss, My Sweet Cookie, etc

“We like the Hussonet breed. We like their temperament and ability. We have purchased six so far including Weekend Hussler, who is a machine with a perfect action; he is by far the best horse I have ever trained.” Ross McDonald, trainer of World Champion 3YO Sprinter - WEEKEND HUSSLER
“While Lindsay Park have taken 13 Hussonet’s to the races for nine winners and 4 black-type horses to date, I’m confident their best form lays ahead of us. I am fortunate to be training three 2YOs by him secured by great judges at the 2009 Magic Millions, Karaka and Easter Yearling sales.” David Hayes, trainer of REAAN, HUSSON LIGHTNING and EAGLE FALLS
In the Ring
On the strength of his international sire credentials Hussonet (USA) yearlings have sold well from the first year they were consigned in Australia (2007), averaging $137,343 for 54 sold in that first year. The stallion’s first crop certainly lived up to buyer expectation when it produced a World Champion galloper – WEEKEND HUSSLER; the stallion’s second crop also producing G1 winners REAAN and GOLD TRAIL.
In 2009 yearlings averaged over $200,000 at the Inglis Easter Sale and Hussonet was ranked the third top sire (for 5 or more sold) to Redoute’s Choice and Encosta de Lago.
Breeders in coming years have the advantage of leveraging off the racetrack performance of the progeny resulting from the exceptional books of mares covered by Hussonet in 2008 and 2009. Mares include champions ALINGHI and MISS FINLAND, G1 winners EMERALD DREAM, TYCOON LIL, LOTTERIA, PORTLAND SINGA, RENA’S LADY, the dams of REDOUTE’S CHOICE, MANHATTAN RAIN, PLATINUM SCISSORS, REAAN (by Hussonet), NOT A SINGLE DOUBT, MISS DARCEY (by Hussonet), PINNACLES etc
