Overview
CHAMPION SIRE OF AUSTRALIA, 2010. IN A CLASS OF HIS OWN
$176,000
In an astonishing turnaround on Saturday 26 June, Redoute's Choice took control of the 2009/10 Australian Sires' list and set sail for his second General Sires' championship. At season-end his total season prizemoney was $9,032,392 - $320,039 more than his nearest rival.
The $421,800 turnaround on 26 June was achieved principally at Eagle Farm by his three-year-old daughters MELITO, who romped away with her second Group One race of the season, the Winter Stakes, and new stakeswinner MIRRASALO, who was equally dominant in the Tattersall's Cup G3.
However, the General earnings list is not the full extent of the premiership territory Redoute's Choice commanded in 2009/10. He also headed the table by Stakeswinners (14, including three new G1 winners: MELITO, DARIANA & ALLEZ WONDER), the Three-Year-Old Sires' list (by winners) with 57; and was second on the the Two-Year-Old Sires' table (by winners) with 15, most recently Crossbow. Remarkably, 13 of those juvenile winners won on debut.
Offshore Redoute's Choice was represented last season by MUSIR (UAE Derby G2, UAE Two Thousand Guineas G3) and his first European winner, the two-year-old colt Elzaam, who scored impressively on debut at York in May, and followed up in June with an excellent performance for second - beaten a nose - in the Coventry S. G2 at Royal Ascot. He was immediately quoted at 14/1 for the 2011 Two Thousand Guineas G1.
Redoute’s Choice is now making a serious impact as a sire of sires with his sons STRATUM and SNITZEL heading the 2009/10 First Season Sires' list in Australia, and NOT A SINGLE DOUBT among the top 5 2nd Season Sires.
To cap what has unquestionably been a milestone season for Redoute's Choice, he posted his first Stakeswinner as a broodmare sire when two-year-old Shamillion (ex One In A Million) won the BRC Australia Post S. LR. Amazingly, that happened on the same day he leapt to the No. 1 spot on the main Sires' list - 26 June.
Redoute’s Choice was a phenomenon on the racetrack. A four-time G1 winner and beautifully bred son of sire of sires DANEHILL, he was an undefeated G1 winner at 2 and Champion 3YO Miler of Australasia in 1999/2000.
At stud, Redoute’s Choice has generated statistics rarely seen in the thoroughbred breeding industry. Champion First Season Sire of Australia 2004, Champion 2YO Sire of Australia 2005 (with record earnings), Champion Sire of Australia 2006 & Champion 2YO Sire of Australia 2006, Redoute’s Choice has sired 4 Champions, 18 G1 winners, 63 stakeswinners, 9 millionaires and supports an 11% stakeswinner to runner ratio.
Redoute’s Choice is already responsible for two G1 Golden Slipper winners, two G1 Blue Diamond winners (and in 2010 his progeny finished 2nd and 3rd), four G1 Flight Stakes winners and two G1 Oaks winners. He is the sire of two Champion Australian 2YOs of Australia: FASHIONS AFIELD and MISS FINLAND, two Champion Australian 3YOs: SAMANTHA MISS and MISS FINLAND, the two highest rated fillies in Australia in 2007/08, and was Leading Sire of 2008/09 by individual stakeswinners.

In the Ring
Not surprisingly, the name of Redoute's Choice consistently appears beside the top prices at the annual sales. In 2006 he achieved a remarkable yearling sales average of $646,300 with his highest priced yearling (colt ex Deja Slew; consigned by Yarraman Park as agent) sold at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale for $3 million. In 2008 his average climbed even higher – to $733,248.
Significantly, a number of these high priced yearlings have gone on to repay their investment: $1.5 million Easter graduate SAMANTHA MISS won $1.76 million on the track, and became Australia's most expensive sale-ring filly when sold for a record $3.85 million at the 2009 Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale. This year’s G3 Blue Diamond Prelude winner (in class record time) and G1 Blue Diamond placegetter Beneteau cost $1 million in 2009. $700,000 yearling purchase NADEEM was a 2YO G1 winner and has gone on to stand at Darley Stud in Victoria; and MUSKET, a $2.5 million yearling, was retired to stud after winning at G2 level. Other high priced yearling purchases such as G1 placegetter ESTEE ($2.1 million) and G2 winner EL DAANA ($900,000) have also become valuable breeding propositions.
In 2010 Redoute's Choice posted the highest average price at the Inglis Easter & Karaka Premier Sales, and was responsible for the highest price at the Magic Millions Premier Sale ($925,000) and the Melbourne Premier Sale ($400,000).
The two top-priced colts at the 2010 Inglis Easter Sale, sold for $1,875,000 and $1,200,000, are both by Redoute's Choice.
