Like his paternal half brother Dehere,
French Deputy has shown a distinct affinity for mares carrying Mr Prospector blood. Mares by Mr Prospector line stallions available in Australia include Bellotto, El Moxie, Geiger Counter, Hector Protector, Jade Hunter, Secret Savings, Thunder Gulch, Unbridled’s Song, Varick, Vettori, Woodman, etc.
French Deputy’s dam is bred on a reverse
Nasrullah/Princequillo cross to the champions Secretariat and Mill Reef. Mares by stallions carrying these strains such as Chief’s Crown, Grand Lodge, Hennessy, Irgun, Last Tycoon, Marooned and Mr Henrysee, etc, could be used.
French Deputy’s World Champion Miler Kurofune
and his stakeswinning sister Bella Bellucci are out of
a mare by Classic Go Go (by Pago Pago). However, it appears the ‘nick’ here is generated by their second dam who is bred on an Icecapade/Turn-To cross, sirelines that appear in 4 of French Deputy’s 6 G1 winners to date. This “nick” has also been successful with French Deputy’s first Japanese progeny. His first two stakeswinners bred in that country are both out of mares by Sunday Silence – a stallion who is by the Turn-To line stallion Halo who in turn is a member of Northern Dancer’s family. Turn-To is also available via the likes of Sir Tristram and Roberto while Northern Dancer (who is bred on the same Nearctic/Native Dancer cross as Icecapade) is now prevalent in the Australian broodmare population.
Another significant factor to consider is the close genetic relationship between French Deputy’s damsire Hold Your Peace and War Relic’s son Relic. This would suggest that mares carrying Relic through the likes of Bletchingly (Canny Lad and Hurricane Sky), Rory’s Jester and Eight Carat (Danewin, Octagonal, Kaapstad, etc) could also work well with French Deputy.
