The Star Kingdom line features in Flying Spur’s stakes winners, with examples such as Jet Spur, Trezevant, Blur, Flying Babe, Volitant and Joy of Flight.  He especially suits the neater, smaller types of mares typical of this line.   Flying Spur seems to enjoy a particular affinity with three sons of Biscay in BLETCHINGLY, MARSCAY and ZEPHYR BAY. Mares sired by the above 3 stallions and the likes of BROAD REACH, BUREAUCRACY, CANNY LAD, CLAY HERO, COVETOUS, HURRICANE SKY, JETBALL, OUR MAIZCAY, STAR WATCH, ST COVET, KAORU STAR, SEMIPALATINSK, STAR WATCH, KEENY’S BEST PAL, COSSACK WARRIOR, BRAVE WARRIOR and ZEPHYR ZIP should suit Flying Spur well.

Worth noting is that Flying Spur’s high class G1 winning son Volata and his stakesplaced daughter Twiggy’s Sister are out of Music Boy mares, a stallion that like Star Kingdom, is a representative of the Hyperion sireline. This successful cross has also occurred via sires that contain Star Kingdom blood close up in their pedigrees such as

MARAUDING (damsire of his G1 winning progeny Dealer Principal and Juanmo) and CENTAINE (damsire of three of Flying Spur’s stakeswinners).
MARAUDING and other sons of SIR TRISTRAM in ZABEEL, KAAPSTAD and DR. GRACE have all produced stakes winners by Flying Spur.  Sir Tristram creates a sex balanced duplication of Sir Ivor with Flying Spur.

Flying Spur has shown an affinity for the Djebel sireline, in particular with CENTURY and his high class sons RUBITON and CENTAINE as well as with NORTHERN SPRING and AHONOORA. For this reason, other stallions from this sireline to consider include TWIG MOSS, AVERAGE GAME and EUCLASE.

Flying Spur works well with NIJINSKY II, who features in the pedigree of his stakes winners Alverta, Creative Plan, Lunaspur and Vignor. Nijinsky is bred on the same Northern Dancer/Bull Dog nick as Flying Spur’s third dam Fanfreluche.  He can be found in mares by ROYAL ACADEMY, CAERLEON, YEATS, BLETCHLEY PARK, WESTERN SYMPHONY and WHISKEY ROAD.

Another successful Northern Dancer line damsire for Flying Spur is LAST TYCOON.  He is sire of the dams of Group 1 winner Casino Prince and Group 2 winner Astrodame, while Group 2 winner Shaft has Last Tycoon as her second damsire..
